Medicare Supplement Plan G

Mutual of Omaha - Medicare Supplement Plan G

Medicare Supplement Plan G

Plan G is our favorite Medigap plan and offers the most value out of the three most popular plans (F, G & N). G is exactly the same as Plan F, the ONLY difference is the Part B deductible is not covered on Plan G; this deductible is $240 for the year. The reason we like Plan G over F:

  • More stable rate increases
  • Premium difference between F and G more than covers the benefit difference of $240
  • Plan F is going away in the future

Plan G covers:

  • Your $1,632 Part A deductible and coinsurance
  • The cost of 365 extra days of hospital care during your lifetime after Medicare coverage ends
  • Your Part B coinsurance and the cost of the first three pints of blood
  • 80% of Part B physician charges that are in excess of the Medicare-approved amount (By law no physician may charge more than 115% of Medicare-approved amounts).
  • Skilled nursing facility copayment
  • Emergency care for foreign travel

Plan G does NOT cover:

  • Your $240 Medicare Part B deductible

Plan G Benefits

Plan G covers 100% of the excess charges

BenefitWhat Plan G Covers
Part A Deductible
You may need this benefit if you have to stay in the hospital. The 2024 Part A deductible is $1632. This amount can change every year. You have to pay this deductible for each benefit period.
Plan G covers 100% of the $1,632 deductible.
Part B Deductible
You may want to consider this benefit if you have Medicare Part B. Each year you must pay the Part B deductible (which is $240) before Medicare starts to pay its share. If you have this benefit, the Medigap plan would pay this amount each year.
Plan G does NOT cover the $240 Part B deductible, you must pay out of pocket.
Part B Coinsurance
Without this benefit, you generally pay 20% of the Medicare-approved amount for Medicare Part B covered services and supplies (like doctor services and outpatient hospital care). This benefit will help you to reduce your out of pocket after Part B deductible.
Plan G covers 100% of the 20% remainder costs
365 Extra Days of Hospital Stay
After you use all Medicare hospital benefits, you can receive up to 365 more days for hospital stays during your lifetime.
Plan G covers all of the costs for an additional 365 additional hospital days
3 Pints of Blood
The first 3 pints of blood or equal amounts of packed red blood cells per calendar year, unless this blood is replaced.
Plan G covers all of the costs of 3 pints of blood per calendar year
Part B Excess Charges
Under federal law, doctors who don’t accept “assignment” (take Medicare’s approved amount as payment in full) may charge up to 15% more than the approved amount. You might want to think about this benefit if your doctors don’t accept assignment. You may also want this benefit if you have to stay in the hospital and can’t control whether the doctors you see accept assignment.Plan G covers 100% of the excess charges
Foreign Travel Emergency
If you travel outside the United States, this benefit could save you money for emergency care.
Plan G covers 80% (after a $250 deductible) to a lifetime maximum benefit of $50,000.
Skilled Nursing Coinsurance
Medicare pays for the first 20 days of a skilled nursing facility. If you need to go to a Skilled Nursing Facility (SNF) after a hospital stay and stay in the SNF longer than 20 days, this benefit begins.
Plan G covers up to $194.50 per day for days 21-100.
Home Health Care
Home Health Care is skilled nursing care and certain other health care services you get in your home for the treatment of an illness or injury.
Plan G covers the 20% remainder not paid by Medicare Part B.

Does Plan G cover eye exams?

    • iha help

Medicare doesn’t cover routine eye exams (sometimes called “eye refractions”) for eyeglasses or contact lenses. Medicare Part B (Medical Insurance) covers some preventive and diagnostic eye exams:

-Glaucoma tests – included for people who are high risk for Glaucoma

-Macular degeneration – People with Part B who have age-related macular degeneration (AMD) are covered at 80% by
Medicare Part B, the additional 20% is covered by Plan G after the deductible is met.

For routine eye exams, Mutual of Omaha medicare supplement plans include a vision program for discounts at no additional cost: https://www.ilhealthagents.com/mutual-of-omaha/medicare-supplement/vision/

I Humana Advantage prior to MOO, I did register for the Silver Sneakers but shame on me I never really took advantage of it. I did do water aerobics-until the temperature of the water really started to aggravate my arthritis. Now I’m going to try the County Senior Center, they have a Tai-Che class and mild exercise classes. They have a small yearly membership fee.

You can apply for Part D (prescription drug plan) during the same as a medicare supplement plan. Mutual of Omaha does not offer Part D plans but you can purchase one from any company in your area. You can search plans through medicare.gov or you can you can email us at [email protected] and we’d be happy to help.

no no no, the best is G….much lower premium for same thing…for example….lets say F covers everything, which it does, at 180 a month…plan G covers every thing at 107 a month but I have to pay 183 a year deductible BUT THE DIFFERENCE IN 107 A MONTH AND 180 A MONTH IS $876 I will pay the 183 and pocket 693…I can get a gym membership for half that and still be ahead….KNOW WHAT G IS!!

just remember if you have major health problems and lousy medicare plan that has silver sneakers, you will pay way more in medical bills….Id rather have my medical bills ALL covered 100% and buy a gym membership for 400 than get a “free” gym membership and pay 3,000 or more in medical bills….if you want the free membership you better plan on no medical bills but good luck on that

Mutual of Omaha medicare supplement plan do not cover any prescription drugs. You will need to purchase a separate Part D Prescription Drug plan in addition to your supplement, which covers your doctor and hospital visits (Medicare Part A and B).

There are Part D plans that do cover Viagra, the drugs covered by each differ by each plan’s formulary of medications and important to do your research. We recommend starting at medicare.gov for Part D plan information.

Yes – going to the gym should be part of an overall health routine, it is not the only way to get exercise

  15. iha help

It does not, but the MOO rates are typically discounted more (depending on your state) than competitor plans to afford a gym membership and still have savings left over.
