LifeSecure Hospital Indemnity Insurance
Daily Cash Benefits for Every Day You’re Hospitalized
Customize your coverage with a daily benefit between $100 and $900—LifeSecure pays you in cash for each day you’re admitted as an inpatient. Use it for deductibles, lost income, childcare, or anything else.
How LifeSecure Hospital Indemnity Works
Pick your daily benefit. Pick how many days you want covered. Get cash for every day you’re admitted.
When you enroll, you choose two things:
- Daily benefit amount: any amount from $100 to $900, in $10 increments.
- Confinement period: rolling benefit periods of 3, 6, 10, or 21 days.
If you’re admitted as an inpatient, LifeSecure pays you your daily benefit amount in cash for each day of your stay—up to your selected number of days. Benefit periods reset 60 days after you leave the hospital, so a hospitalization later in the year doesn’t exhaust your protection.
- Average inpatient hospital stay costs $13,600+ in the U.S.
- Even with health insurance, deductibles + coinsurance commonly run $3,000–$8,000 per admission
- You can be sent home owing thousands even after a 1-night stay
- Cash benefits cover the bills and the indirect costs (lost wages, childcare, food, transportation)
What Triggers a Benefit Payment
In addition to standard inpatient admission, LifeSecure pays for these specific situations:
| Situation | Benefit Paid |
|---|---|
| Inpatient hospital admission | Your full daily benefit amount for each day, up to your selected confinement period |
| Treatment in an observation unit | Your full daily benefit amount—up to 6 days per calendar year (resets each January 1) |
| Mental or nervous disorder admission | $150 daily benefit—up to 7 days per calendar year |
| Newborn nursery confinement | Coverage available for newborn dependents per policy provisions |

How Hospital Indemnity Helps With ACA Deductibles and Coinsurance
A marketplace plan can cap catastrophic risk, but a hospital stay can still leave the member owing thousands. Hospital indemnity helps turn that exposure into cash on hand.
| Illustrative Scenario | Member Cost on ACA Plan | Hospital Indemnity Offset |
|---|---|---|
| 3-day inpatient stay Appendicitis, emergency surgery, and 3 nights in the hospital. |
The member may owe $2,500 to $4,500 between deductible and coinsurance. | A $300/day plan pays $900. A $500/day plan pays $1,500. |
| 2-night stay after an accident Hospital admission after a fall or auto accident. |
The ACA plan still leaves the member with inpatient cost-sharing plus bills that keep coming after discharge. | A $300/day benefit adds $600 in cash. A $400/day benefit adds $800. |
| Bundled with Accident Insurance ER, imaging, fracture treatment, then inpatient admission. |
The member is exposed on both the injury side and the hospital side of the claim. | Accident insurance can help with ER and fracture costs while hospital indemnity pays for each inpatient day. Together, they create a much stronger buffer against ACA out-of-pocket costs. |
Illustrative example only. Actual benefits depend on the daily amount and confinement period selected.
Who Should Consider Hospital Indemnity?
- Anyone on a high-deductible health plan. A single inpatient admission can blow through a $5,000+ deductible. The cash benefit reimburses what you’d otherwise pay out of pocket.
- Expecting parents. Average maternity hospital stay is 2–4 days; a $300/day plan can pay $600–$1,200+ in cash benefits at delivery.
- People with planned surgeries or chronic conditions that may require hospital stays.
- Self-employed or hourly workers without paid sick leave who would lose income while hospitalized.
- Medicare beneficiaries who want to backstop the Part A inpatient deductible.
Frequently Asked Questions
Does this replace my health insurance?
No. Hospital indemnity is supplemental coverage—it pays cash benefits in addition to whatever your major medical plan covers. You should still maintain primary health insurance.
How is “inpatient” defined?
Inpatient typically means you’ve been formally admitted to a hospital under the care of a physician for at least one overnight stay. Observation status (a separate benefit) covers shorter stays in an observation unit before formal admission.
What does “rolling benefit period” mean?
If you choose a 6-day confinement period, your benefit period covers up to 6 days per admission. Multiple separate admissions during the year each have their own 6-day period—the benefit doesn’t exhaust after one stay.
Is childbirth covered?
Most plans cover hospital admission for childbirth like any other inpatient stay—subject to the standard waiting period that applies after enrollment. There may be a 9- or 10-month exclusion specific to maternity for new policies; check your Outline of Coverage.
Are pre-existing conditions covered?
Care or treatment for any condition diagnosed or treated within the 12 months before your policy effective date is not covered until 6 months after coverage starts. Different rules apply in KS, WY (6 months prior + 6 post), and NC (no limitation if age 65+).
Can I add my spouse and children?
Yes. Family coverage is available; rates depend on the daily benefit, confinement period, and number of dependents added.
